RecyClass recognises the market-leading traceability of MBA Polymers UK’s recycled polymers, derived from end-of-life vehicles and rigid packaging, as the plastic industry transitions towards the circular economy.

World-leading plastics recycler MBA Polymers UK – part of global leaders in sustainable materials, EMR – has been certified by RecyClass, a Europe-wide initiative that promotes sustainable practices in the plastic packaging industry.

For more than 12 years, MBA Polymers UK has developed many innovative technologies to boost the circularity of plastics in the UK and beyond. The range of recycled polymers that MBA Polymers UK delivers achieve carbon savings of between 75% and 86%, making them the first recycled plastics to carry the Carbon Trust Lower CO2 label.

As the plastic industry seeks new ways to operate sustainably, the RecyClass certification recognises the role MBA Polymers UK’s advanced recycling processes play in the circular economy.

RecyClass (and EuCertPlast, who have combined under the RecyClass Recycling Process Certification) is a not-for-profit cross-industry initiative that uses rigorous scientific analysis to ensure the traceability of waste in plastic recycling processes. Based on the principles of the EN 15343 standards, RecyClass audits recyclers to analyse their processes and permits, ensuring their operations are environmentally sound and transparent.

MBA Polymers UK’s certification covers the sorting, washing, extrusion and pellet production for a range of recycled polymers, including ABS, PP, FPP, HIPS and HDPE. It confirms that MBA Polymers UK utilises a range of post-consumer plastics from end-of-life vehicles, rigid packaging and electrical goods (WEEE), giving its customers further confidence about the sustainability and traceability of its products.

Paul Mayhew, General Manager at MBA Polymers UK, said: “Achieving RecyClass certification for the sustainability and traceability of our products is a great way to start 2024.

“Like many recyclers, MBA Polymers UK sees sustainability and the circular economy as central to our mission to tackle the global challenge of plastic waste. The RecyClass certification – which has followed a rigorous third-party auditing process – highlights how our teams are delivering on this, from the moment that post-consumer plastics arrive at our sites to the recycled polymers that we then supply into the market.

“We work hard to build trust with our customers, showing them that our values are aligned, and we are as dedicated to solving their challenges as they are. Holding a highly regarded certification, such as RecyClass, just cements the message: we are serious about sustainability.

“Over the next 12 months, MBA Polymers UK has a number of exciting projects that will continue this journey and – thanks to the recognition of the RecyClass team – I am more confident than ever that the materials we produce will help to deliver a game-changing circular economy for post-consumer plastics.”
